Rice Pilaf with Beef & Carrots Iraqi Recipe

Rice Pilaf withBeef &  Carrots Iraqi Recipe - Timman Jazar - Middle Eastern Iraqi Recipe with onion, baharat also known as 7 spice or garam masala, ground lamb or ground beef, and carrot.  Its definitely a hearty rice dish, with lots of flavor. Using spices like baharat or garam masala, give the meat a very nice aromatic flavor.


1) In a large saucepan drizzle a little vegetable oil and cook the ground beef with garam masala or baharat (7 Spice).

2) Add the chopped onion to the meat mixture and cook for 7 to 10 minutes. Season with salt and black pepper to taste.

3) Add the carrots and cinnamon and a little water, and mix together with the meat mixture, cook on low heat for 7 minutes.

4) In another sauce pot cook the rice until its tender.

5) Pour the meat mixture with all the vegetables into the rice pot and mix together.

6) Turn the heat off and allow to sit for 5 minutes covered with a lid.

7) Place into serving platter and serve.


*NOTE - Make this a vegetarian recipe by not putting any meet, and use vegetable stock or broth instead of chicken broth.


  1. 2 cups rice
  2. 4 cups water or chicken broth or stock
  3. 1 pound minced meat, beef or lamb
  4. 1 pound carrots, chopped
  5. 1 large onion, finely chopped
  6. 1 tablespoon Garam Masala or Baharat 7 Spice
  7. 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
  8. salt to taste
  9. black pepper to taste
  10. Vegetable oil for cooking
